Well haven’t I been the slackest blogger ever! Now I am beginning to understand the saying “Time fly’s when you are having fun”. Or maybe it is having to be in a certain place to carry out certain tasks. Oh well here I am again. Trying to recall what I have actually done in the last 3 months is a bit of a challenge at the moment but when I get on a roll I realised that I recall every moment with great clarity. I am not going to waffle on about how great is was here as in time I am sure people will see what passion I have for that country soon enough. Today is that start of a new adventure.

I think this is a great way of publicizing a campaign. Anyone can enter!! It allows people to express themselves in a way that puts them out into the public eye. I have entered for fun but it would be nice if you voted for me. See the link below.

There are many interesting and exciting people all over the world, this brings people with a common interest in other people to have a bit of fun.

I am not to sure about the photo but it is a sunglasses campaign so sunglasses it is!!

1st Test film from 1960's Halina 35mm

I was visiting a car boot in the local area a few weekends ago and came across a small 1960's camera called a Halina. It takes 35mm film. I was just so over the moon. It was in mint condition and I had been dying to use a new medium for my photography.

Interestingly it did take a little while to work out how to get the film in. My idea was to make sure that I was out in bright light to give it the best opportunity and sadly I did have to wait a few days for sun light.

When I had shot the film I took my time taking out the film and went to the local photo shop that I work in.

I developed the negatives myself and as they came out I could make out what the photos were of which was a great feeling.

After processing the negatives I transferred the pictures to digital and brought them straight home. To my excitement I loved the photos and the effect of the camera.

The day was not misty or hazy but the effect is. The color of the sky in some of the shots is just out of this world.

A little Slack

I have been a little slack with posts recently, sorry. Time is of the essence at the moment and I have to utilize my time with more important issues and the fun can come later. I have been out and about at a few events over the last two weeks and wanted to post a quick selection. Every night I see a colored sky I am out there taking pictures. This was on a quick trip to a local hill for a view of the sunset.

I worked on an estate for an event a few weekends ago and was amazed to stumble across some water buffalo. When I got the photos home it looked as if the buffalo had been supper imposed on to the landscape. I also took this picture of a giant poppy that I quite liked.

This picture was taken on the same estate. I just loved the way the colors of the ground matched so well with the dead bird.

This was taken locally. I had seen the field on the way to work and promised myself I would get to the field later to take photos. It took me about an hour to actually find the field down dirt tracks.

People Never Change

Below are snippets of my school reports from Camelsdale Primary school – Between the age of 5 and 8 years old.

1984
Kate really enjoys all arts and crafts activities – she is particularly good at modelling in plasticene. Her drawings are lively and detailed.

1985
Kate is a cheerful, happy little girl. She is kind and caring with her friends and generously shares her things with them. She can be strong willed and determined in some matters. She participates in all class discussions, enjoys group activities and one to one conversations. She frequently brings her “boxes” in with innumerable treasures to share with her classmates. She has a good memory and has confidently recited in front of the school. Kate enjoys all books particularly animal books.

1986
Kate has made steady progress in all areas of the curriculum and consequently has become more confident in her own ability. She can still be a chatterbox but she is trying hard to improve this.

1987
Kate is a very active child who enjoys all forms of physical activity. She shows some good mobility and control in P.E. and movement. She has good organising ability and a strong personality which can help her in group work. She is usually happy and keen to be helpful in class. Kate enjoys working with materials. She can produce bold pictures and nice prints.

1988
Although Kate can be rather dreamy she tries very hard and has a positive attitude to her work. She is very enthusiastic member of her class who is always willing to help others. Kate finds interest in environmental sciences rather than experimentation and is keen to study animals and plants. Kate is very active during class and group discussions and is particularly interested in adult conversation. She can transfer visual images to paper or fabric in a satisfying unique way and should be encouraged in this area.

Hermanus, South Africa 2009

I traveled to South Africa with a good friend who originates from the area we traveled to. Hermanus is approximately an hour and a half south of Cape Town, another hours drive south from Hermanuas and you reach the most Southerly point in Africa, which I drove to myself.

The town of Hermanus is a vibrant town surrounded by mountains inland and the Atlantic Ocean. It is known as one of the best places in the world to watch whales from the cliffs.

Whales migrate to Walker Bay in September and October to calf. I will be there for this years whale season. Here are a selection of photos that I took while I was getting to know the town.

Views are out over the 'Old harbor', rocks near to the 'Boiling Pot' and the view from my favorite restaurant/cafe 'Fusion'. The sound of the sea is something that you become quite accustomed to but after returning I have realized it is the one thing I miss the most!

Having spoken yesterday to one of the many friends I made out there it seams that they are all very excited about my return and will be planning lots of excursions, how glorious.

Lake Garda - Summer 2002

I returned to Italy the following summer but this time to Lake Garda. These are a selection of my first attempts at black and white 35mm film. The castle is situated in a town called Simione on the south side of the lake. The weather there was incredible, such colorful sunsets, storms and clouds all rolling off the Alps.

In the summer of 2001 I returned to Italy to work. I was missing using the language, the weather and culture. I was based on the Venice Lido in an area called Cavallino. These are a few of the photos I took during this period. What a great summer this was!! This was the start of me really enjoying photography. I am ashamed as these photos were taken with a 35mm SLR that my Grandfather donated to me and they have sat in boxes for the last 4 years. They have now been set free.

Objective

For a little clarity on the strategy of my plan. I am hoping to have no major ties in the UK as of September this year. In South Africa I have the offer of a place to stay which is why I am starting my adventure there. Ideally I would like to visit as many places in this beautiful world before I am too old.

Organising and selling 30 years worth of belongings can be quite emotional but at the same time it is the best therapy I have ever had. The thought of living out of a suitcase and being able to travel wherever the world takes me is a dream come true!!

Welcome to all that view this Blog. I am a 30 year old female on the verge of a life changing experience as I am off to see the world and chase my dream. I have recently returned from an eye-opening trip to South Africa and plan to start this experience there. Amateur photography is my passion and I am planning on posting photos, diary snippets and anything that I find of interest here on my page.
